Materials & Directions

Palo Santo is small, smooth light to medium brown wood sticks, 4-6 inches long with a dense texture and visible grain.

To use palo santo:

  1. Light the Stick: Hold one end of the palo santo stick and light the other end with a match or lighter. Allow the flame to burn for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.

  2. Blow Out the Flame: Gently blow out the flame, leaving the stick smoldering and releasing fragrant smoke.

  3. Smudge the Area: Move the smoldering stick around the area, object, or person you want to cleanse. Use a gentle waving motion to spread the smoke. Focus on corners, doorways, or areas where energy might collect.

  4. Extinguish Properly: When finished, press the lit end firmly into a fireproof dish, sand, or soil to fully extinguish the smoke.

  5. Ventilate the Space: Open windows or doors to allow negative energy and smoke to leave the space.
